Jason Arday has been found dead. A fantasist, it would seem, a plagiarist, a fabricator of his past. However, these are all sins with which white academics have been indicted in the past, without suffering headline news. The BBC gave it away when they referred to him in the context of his exposure as the "black professor". They would never have referred to previous guilty academics as "white professors".

The amount of attention given to this story was absurd, not least by the likes of The Guardian, who should have known better. Arday was autistic, vulnerable. Far better checks should have been put in place to ensure things never came to this pass, for sure. His over-promotion suggested an institution over-desperate to compensate for its historically poor record on inclusivity.

However, for the gleeful right to argue that this whole episode is an indictment of "diversity" in general is just flat out racism. Those who took joy in this story, or pushed it so hard, should hang their heads tonight in deep, deep shame. Sadly, we are talking about people incapable of shame.

I wasn’t being horrible. I was praising his hardness. Imagine being so hard that you “come and say it to my face” on a message board before giving out a generic “I’ll be in this busy public place at this time” (without any actual specifics). Only a mega super hard person would do that.

If you read my comments on the Grifter thread about Jason Arday you'll see I said he was a fantasist or at worst a liar, and put the blame for his predicament at the door of the DEI-loving academics who appointed him. They had a duty of care to him, failed him, and now he's dead.

You, on the other hand, were happy to describe him as a con man and a grifter, and defend the white academics who appointed him, saying they were duped by his lies and charm.
