When I was between 7 and 9 years old we lived in semi-rural Essex. I remember at the time that school buses were a normal feature. They kept us safe from being abused on the streets, so that we could be abused by the older kids on the bus instead. It was character building stuff. Bring 'em back, I say.

They could have given the parents of these kids ten grand each to drive their own kids to school and it would've been cheaper. How have they managed this?

Exactly, can’t expect them to walk a mile to school when they had a Pizza Crunch supper for dinner either

Leave the scotch school kids alone. I'd like to see any of you lot try and walk a mile to school after a bowel of cornflakes in buckfast for breakfast.

Mate, that was 45 years ago. Things have changed considerably since then.

Private businesses are opening new schools for SEND kids at a rate of one every five days.

They then charge councils fees of up to £350,000 per kid to attend these. Spending on these private schools has risen 300% in eight years.

With all kids being classed as having special needs these days they'll be able to close down all the state schools as no one can go to them anymore.

My local council has zero debt. Presumably because they spend sod all on getting IT systems to work.

Enter postcode: AB01 2CD
Enter in correct format: AB012CD
Enter in correct format: ab01 2 cd
:
:
continue ad infinitum

I finally got it to accept AB01 2cD

Good question, I'm not really sure

- private health providers doing 'assessments'
- transport providers (to/from school services)
- private education providers?

My point more is that councils shouldnt have to carry the can for these and other statutory costs as it eats up a lot of their budget at the cost of everything else because its a legal requirement.
